About this camping trip...

So we're back from Charleston already, about a day early. We had a really good time... had it not been for the rain. We got to Charleston and Edisto Island State Park Monday afternoon and everything was fine - we had had a good trip and were happy to have found such a beautiful piece of land to camp on for a few days. We set up the tent and went straight to the beach. And then...just as we had gotten in the water... some clouds came up on the horizon. We hung around the beach, convinced this would only be a small shower. Eventually we gave that up and drove back to the campsite, where we ran into the tent, still waiting for this "shower" to be done. 3 hours of lightning, thunder and heavy rain later we ran back to the car (parked about a 150 ft. path through the woods away from the tent), pretty unnerved and slightly pissed off by now. Worried that the tent would not be the safest place to be in a thunderstorm that seemed to get worse by the minute, we decided to sleep in the car. Problem: It was humid and hot as hell and the mosquitoes were eating us alive as soon as we just cracked the window. Another hour later we decided that not breathing and getting eaten by mosquitoes wasn't any more or less comforting than spending a night in a tent during a severe thunderstorm, so we ran back to the tent once again, this time through huge puddles of rainwater and mud. Last thing I saw before I fell asleep - a huge roach in between the tent and the rain fly :)
Long story short: The rain stopped sometime that night and the next morning looked better, but still promising of rain. All "adventurelust" aside, the prospect of another night like this, of more roaches, huge spiders, and frogs in the shower (not to speak of the swarms of super- aggressive mosquitoes that didn't seem to care about what you sprayed on yourself) led us to not stay another night, but drive home instead. We still enjoyed a beautiful day on the beach and a great afternoon in Charleston yesterday before driving back and arriving in Knoxville early this morning. And here we are on one of the most gorgeous summer days imaginable... with perfect weather for, yes, the beach... :)

Sorry to hear that it didn't go as planned. At least you had a good time on the beach and Charleston. Overall, I'd have rather done that than worked all week.
