Good news, bad news

Good news: I got an email from one of the professors I applied to work with yesterday, saying he was really excited about my application and though he couldn't make an official offer yet, I was #1 on his list. Now the department has to decide. Sigh of relief. I have certainly felt the insecurity and nervousness creeping up on me lately (a friend found out last week that she was accpeted to the program she had applied for), so a word of reassurance certainly felt nice.

Bad news: I'm sick. Again. My once-a-winter-respiratory thingy. My throat and nose had felt funny all week...I was wondering what in the world I could be allergic to this time of year (although I've been warned about the crazy allergies people deal with in Tennessee). On Friday I woke up hoarse and last night I woke up at 3 am because my tonsils felt like they were on fire and about triple their regular size. Since then the nose has joined in, along with a nice cough. While at first I was worried about laryngitis (had that a few years ago and it started off with just being hoarse), I now pretty much know I caught a nice common cold from some of the kids at school. Feels like I'm trying hard to leave no bug behind this year :-( So I stayed home this morning, not going to yoga, but sleeping instead. Patrick has been at a dissertation seminar all weekend, so I've been on the couch drinking gallons of tea, snoozing and feeling like a cat who's trying to cough up hairballs every few hours. (Well, you know what I mean...). Great!!!!?
