Baby bird

Okay - just after I got finished with my last entry, I went outside to water the plants and saw a baby bird in the grass. I'm not sure if he fell out of his nest or what happened, but we couldn't find a nest. Finally, we looked up some information and made sure it was okay for us to touch him. I took him up to see if something was broken or if he was hurt, but he seemed okay. He is so young, has very few feathers and seems to be incredibly hungry. We called a wildlife rescue center and are waiting for their reply. As of now, he's in a shoebox in our living room (the recording said to do that if no nest could be found). I just couldn't leave him there and wait for the cat to come... At the same time, we can't feed him, because we don't know what and how and I'm just heartbroken and terrified thinking he might not make it through the night. We think it's a baby mockingbird, by the way, but we're not sure.

Anyway, I had to share that. Let us know if you have any ideas on how to deal with baby birds. We'll keep you posted...

Kurz nach meiner letzten Nachricht wollte ich die Blumen gießen (ss oder ß macht mich gaga), als ich ein kleines Vögelchen im Gras liegen sah. Kein Nest, keine Mutter, nichts in der Nähe. Er ist ganz klein, macht keinen Lärm und sieht sehr hungrig aus. Ich finde nicht, dass er krank aussieht, nur schwach und klein, aber ich bin auch kein Tierarzt oder Biologe. Jedenfalls haben wir die Tierhilfs-Hotline angerufen und warten auf Antwort. In der Zwischenzeit haben wir ihn in einem Schuhkarton ins Wohnzimmer geholt, da wir kein Nest finden konnten (laut Tierhilfswerk kann man Vögel anfassen und soll sie im Schuhkarton halten, bis Hilfe kommt). Das ist das. Ich hab's nicht über's Herz gebracht, ihn dort liegen und der Katze zu überlassen :-(
Jetzt hoffe ich nur, dass der Kleine die Nacht überlebt und wir ihn morgen zum Hilfswerk bringen können. Wir denken übrigens, dass es eine Drossel ist, sind uns aber nicht sicher...
